hi guys,

i just bought myself a 1968 mini 2 speed wiper motor to put into my minor 1000. can anyone tell me or if you have a wiring diagram for a mini what the 5 pins are for. from the 5pin socket to the motor there are 3 wires red yellow and blue, does any one know what these wires do?

also is it true that i just need to take out the whole gear (cog) and swap it with the minor wiper gear.

regards

Michael

thanks dirty hands,

found out the hard way sort of

i still got a few issues.

this is a diagram of the plug on the motor end.

LOW HIGH EARTH

? ?

i believe the bottom two pins are for auto park, but im not sure which one is what, if you get what i mean.

i connect one to the switch and the other to direct power, the motor runs non stop, switch them over and the motor keeps on running.

there is no resistance between the two pins therefore it is an open circuit.

can any one help please urgently, it started raining in sydney Mad Mad Mad

I have the mini book about 15 wirng diagrames minis mokes etc
and none of the wiring diagrams have the same colours as you have mentioned and

(only 3 for later the early ones were two wires so one speed )

mine is the british mini leyland factory mannual and have been told the australian repair mauals and wiring colours are differnt

all direct wired from battery to fuse box ignition and switch with an earth

thats all I can tell you

if you need a quicker answer there is a post on the wiper wires and switches somewhere

As soon as you join the wrong wire you will instantly melt the small contacts off the bottom of the gear (the self park)

The Marina wiper motor has different colour wiring to it too. 2 out of 3 are the same but I wouldn't like to guarantee that the 2 the same correspond to the Mini.

On the bottom of the large gear there is a copper strip that runs part way round, a small contact runs (slides) along that copper strip, after you turn the wipers off it still gets power through the contact untill in runs off the end (parked).
Once you have melted the fragile contact off it would be pretty hard to repair, it just means you have to park the wipers manuely.
Ill pull a motor out later & work out the wireing for you.
origanally the wiper motor would have had a constant power surply, & was switched on by giving it an earth, thats why the motors are rubber mounted.
I just solidly mounted my 2 speed wiper under the dash & ran 2 power wires for the 2 speeds.

great news guys,

i have figured out what wire is what and have tested the motor to see if it works properly, and it does, thank god. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

thanks for your help dirty hands and trev.

this mini motor does not operate on a circular copper strip. there is a plug on the motor itself which contains a plastic needle (thats what i call it) that when the gear spins, at a particular point it pushes the needle into the plug disconnecting the 12v power supply and stopping the gear from turning.

Michael

hi John,

i will let everyone know on the whole procedure of putting a 2 speed wiper motor in, but first i need to do a couple of mods to the body of the wiper motor to mount and fit all the correct gear.

if any one has any suggestions throw them my way

Michael
