Hey guys!

Here's my 1958 Morris Minor 1000 Victor (thus called coz we reckon he's powered by a Victa lawnmover engine Very Happy ) all jazzed up for my bro's wedding. At the moment he's based in southside Brisbane, and has been in Queensland for much of his life, although he's from NZ originally.

Ummm, what else? I've had him for about three years. He's basically stock-standard, apart from Major drums on the rear. A lot of work was put into his interior and paint (although not by me thank god!), but it's still pretty standard. Breaks down all the time - mainly with clutch problems, although the scariest time was when the throttle return spring broke while I was doing 100km/h on the Bruce highway, leaving me with a rapidly accelerating revving engine and no brakes, as they were dodgy due to clogged cylinders and would lock up one front wheel totally if pressed to hard. It was awful! Luckily after a few seconds of panic I realised I could just turn him off and coast.... phew! Very lucky it happened on the highway though!

I've just been through a crisis whereby my parents offered me their Barina gratis if I wanted to sell the Morry - tempting for a student, as he's so expensive to keep! But I've avoided the tempation and am seriously considering modding Victor up with all the Datsun conversions....

The other interesting thing is that he's a 1958 model, but the original plate says he's painted in Panamuna Blue, apparently only a 1957 colour...

Hi Ellie
I have also got a '58 morrie 2 door which is Panamuna Blue (so perhaps it was also a 58 colour) and was in a wedding earlier this year.
You can see some photo's in the "Morry Tales" section under "Morrie Wedding"
Good luck with your repairs. Blue Sedan Very Happy

Victor looks the part Very Happy . Panamuna Blue is one of the brighter standard colours & there's not too many around.

Clutch problems !! Shocked
There's not too much too them. What sort of problems are you having ?

Hi guys! Thanks for your lovely messages Very Happy Scott, it's clutch is it's Achilles heel I think! it's been rebuilt once in the three years I've had it, and once by a previous owner, and the clutch rod that joins the pedal to the actual clutch keeps snapping! Three times now! Quite disconcerting when you're about to take off from the lights *lol*

The clutch rod is a weak link but 3 breakages is very unusual.

Is the rod being repaired each time or replaced ?

hey Scott! Oooh, almost instantaneous communication - spooky Very Happy

Not sure about the first two times - Victor went straight to the mechanics and I really have no idea how they fixed it. Charged enough to replace the whole thing though! The third time my boyfrind repaired it by welding two bolts together and strengthened it by adding nuts to the bar near the join and at either end. So hopefully that'll do the trick for the time being....

Man, the bit about the throttle spring on the highway made for great reading Very Happy ! He sure is a good looking Morrie tho......how could your folks be so insensitive as to suggest a BARINA as a replacement Shocked Very Happy ??? Some people just don't understand . The mod your boyfriend did sounds like it might just do the trick, so good luck with your Victor!

Hi Ellie

You keep with it!
So many people just "do not get it" when it comes to Morries.
But you are certainly not on your own here.

If you want to pick up tips and meet some of the
people on this site make sure you come to the
Display day at Ormistonm on the 21st Oct.
It's not far from Holland Park.

It's listed in the CLUB EVENTS section
or click on this link below:

Best of luck, Oli
