hi i used the same colum in my ute and i did remove the bottom bracket without any problems

from memory i used athin blade in the angle grinder and mad a carefull cut from each side and it came of with out damaging any thing else

I got it off , once the wheel is off the outer assembly all slides over followed by the bracket, it was good to see inside to see how it collapses
I also rebuilt the ignition today, being a locksmith i wanted to check it for some of the common problems they have, surprisingly it was in very good condition for its age.

When you make your top bracket, make sure the steering lock is lined up with hole in the column.
