Speedo

Hi
my speedo has for some time been inaccurate with mild fluctuations. This has now increased to the extent that it is not accurate at all and just waves up and down around the speed I am traveling at.
Any thoughts on how or if it can be fixed or do I just find a replacement?

I'm an instrument tech and I had the same issues as you, on pulling the speedo apart I found the mainspring was u/s. I was unable to get parts and having a spring made is very cost prohibitive, I bought a second hand unit off ebay from the uk, cost about $40 inc frt, just had to be patient

It might just be the speedo cable binding up.

You can test the speedo by removing it & using a reversible drill to power it up. If you can spare a small Philips screwdriver, remove the handle & use that in the drill to power the speedo.

If the speedo is nice & steady, you know the problem is elsewhere.

If the speedo proves OK, remove the speedo cable assy & remove the inner cable. Make sue nothing is kinked.
Give both parts a good clean through with kero (or similar) & let dry. Lube using graphite powder & reassemble.

I will test it out this weekend as per Scott's instructions and take it from there.
It can be annoying driving to work not really knowing what speed you are traveling through all of these different speed zones!
