G'day

Will (can it be made) the standard windscreen motor out of a 1000 work with the split screen models?
I have one for sale and have been asked the question, particularly for an FJ.

cheers

Hi Graham

From memory--it was a llloooonnnnnnggggg time ago--the splitties have the motor under the dash, not in the engine bay and use rods to actuate the wipers.

So to make your wiper motor work, it would probably be necessary to reproduce the whole 1000 system with the drive cable and wheel boxes from the later model. I guess a mounting would have to be fabricated for the motor to sit on.

The sweep of the wiper arms might have to be reduced too--not too difficult once you are inside the wiper gearbox.

My thoughts anyway.

I agree with stracho that the wipers will work, but they will need to have a new mount made up and the cable will need to be altered to suit the FJ.

regards Grumpy

No probs Stracho

You are a much more reliable source than me. It is more than 40 years since I had my Series 2s and an MM. I guess the old grey cells have let me down. Embarassed

Is it the MM that had rods and a wiper motor under the dash then, or have I just made the whole thing up? Eye Rolls

Sorry Graham--I WAS trying to help.

Cheers

You may find the sweep angle on the 1000 motor might be greater than the SII. The screen is bigger so I would think the angle would be slightly greater.

BTW Don, the MM set up is the same as the SII too.

Well I got two things right:

1) The motor under the dash
2) The probable need to change the sweep.

The rod linkage must have been one of my various other cars.

Two out of three ain't bad after 40 years. Very Happy

Cheers

G'day

Thank you all for your input.
I thought that it could be used with a split screen, just wanted to make sure I was not telling posible buyers a furphy.

cheers

the one that is popular for street rods and has connecting rods is the A40 (A45??) Farina.
