G'day Ian

The radiator is a custom job, aimed at giving good cooling in the tropics with the air con on.
What have you got and what have you done to it?
Open a thread on "Your Morry" and tell us about it, pictures are always good.

The front bit is the factory one just extended a bit.

Cheers

hi Graham my morrie is a 1953 series 11 two door started off the same as you purchased a nice solid car pulled the engine out & started a transplant .this was about year 2000 . I fitted a series 4 13b from my rx3 (it was rearended back in 1998 so all the running gear was ok ) I used a series 2 rx7 manual box ( moved the cluch fork to suit morris set up , mazda rx3 diff & mazda rx4 disc on the front & drums on the back noched the gearbox bellhousing around the rack & made a new section of floor over the gearbox .I used a rx3 radiator & a electric fan in front . I kept the car looking complete stock used Mazda steel rims & fitted original hubcaps . All interor is original . Drove the car to the Adelaide nationals back 2003 .The reason I joined the site is I have just started to do a roof chop ie lowering it 3" & I am looking for a back window frame to cut the lower curves to join up & make a smaller rear window ( the bottom corners are a tighter curve .I will get some photos up on the site. Cheers Ian...

G'day Ian

I look forward to the pictures always good to see someone else’s vision of what a Morry should be.
Have you done anything to the engine? Mine is basically the standard NA S5 motor which seems plenty so far.
What diff ratio are you running? I have the 3.9 in the S2 diff. which with the 15" rims gives a fairly tall gearing, 2500 at 100km.

Cheers

G'day

Well it has finally happened; Morrx was legally registered in Victoria this afternoon. I got the Engineers certificate, for all the mods, this morning and presented it with the relevant form to Vic roads who amended their records and issued a new registration label and certificate.

G'day

My vision for the car dose not include Vic. rego plates so the car will be going home at some stage. I do not have any concrete plans as yet but it will probably go home on a truck. I would love to drive it but it is a bit new to chance the trip yet, not many Morris/Mazda mechanics north of Port Augusta.

Cheers

G'day

As much as an easy drive home is appealing it is not going to happen this time. Although I was just out in the car, checking an adjustment I made to the drivers seat's position, and at 100 with the cruise on it was quiet (apart from some wind noise) and relaxed (about 2500rpm) , it would eat up the miles with out any effort. But I am not sure about the comfort of the original seats, even with more leg room, and no stereo/radio would be a real problem.
Basically the mechanicals have been upgraded but the interior has not been touched yet, that is next.

Cheers

G'day

As mentioned earlier in this thread, to save a bit of space, we fitted an electric water pump to the car. At the time we did not fit its controller unit assuming the normal thermostat would control the temp. and water flow.
This was not a good idea as the engine has been running cold and generally not happy. The solution

it is programmable (i.e. you set the temp it works at) and turns the pump on when the water exiting the block reaches the temp you have set.
The engine is much happier now it is able to reach its operating temp and stay there.

This arrangement may be of interest to others looking for a bit of space or just a bit more power, you save what would normally be used to run the mechanical pump.

Cheers

G'day

A couple of pictures I took today.
The latest on the engine bay.

Finally got the chrome back on the front.

I went for a little drive after the grand final was decided (before half time) and had a bit of a play. On a deserted back road I thought I would get a rough idea how quick it accelerated and tried to time a 0 to 100 time.
Using my sailing count down watch I got about 12 seconds but could do better. It is harder than you might think to get the watch going, pick your change points, watch the Speedo and most importantly watch the road. I left it in drive the first change was at 6000 (60) not sure at what the second change came, too busy watching everything else, it did not need to change as second is good for 120 at 6000.
All good fun.

Cheers

G'day

Not long ago I was in a friend’s car (the old boxy Ford Festiva) and figured the centre consol would be an easy fit into Morrx. So I got one from the wreckers and tried to fit it yesterday.
Sometime things work out and some times they don't, it was about 1/2 an inch too high to fit under the air-con so I cut a bit out of the middle to make it fit only to find that when it fitted into place it was too long and fouled the handbrake, a bit more cutting and it fitted. Not quite the easy fit I had hoped for but it progresses.
The stereo I have got has a remote as the consol will be a bit of a reach when driving.

I also had a play with one of the high back seats that came with the car.
They will need a bit of work to make them fit properly but I have started

Cheers

G'day

Some pictures of the inside this morning, I was having a play seeing how things fit.
I have also got a Tom Tom to show me the speed; I have found them good for setting the cruise control.

Hi Graham

I was having a look at your recent pictures today. Your gearlever and gear selection indicator are set up for LHD. Have you thought of swaping them over?

Just a thought.

Have you asked if you are able to actually get that plate in NT. It might be available?

Cheers

Darren

G'day

The MORRX plate is not available in the NT, as I have already got it, for when I get the car home.
The selector and surround are out of an Australian delivered car so are all there is.

Pictures are of the engine bay today, everything is finally connected.

Cheers

The engine bay looks very tidy. Shame about the plate Graham. Have you had a chance to test out the a\c yet? Your going to need it soon. I wish I had put Aircon in mine Mad

I am interested to know what the car weighs now? I know mine is 900kgs

G'day

Stereo fitted and connected by me and surprise surprise it works.
New inside aerial works, USB easy to use, remote works so no bending.
Plug under the stereo is for the GPS.

The car has been weighted but I can not remember how much it was but I am sure it was more than your 900kg.

Cheers
