Hey all i just purchased my first morris as a project to fix up of one of my dads mates. Its abit rough and needs a fair bit of work but i really wanna do a full resto by myself and this is the lucky candidate. Not sure of the year yet as cant really find any info on the plates to tell me but on of the plates says it was assembled in brisbane so i know the car hasnt travelled far from home since it was made. I have started stripping it since i picked it up and once fully dismantled (painful as nothing wants to undo) will be getting all the floors sills and any other rusty bits replaced with new parts. Plan to use the old morrry motor supplied to me at first but want to go for a corolla k motor eventually as i know them well after playing with them for the past few years with my corolla panelvan. Anyways have some photos of the beast and the supplied parts car (morris sedan) for you all and will hope to talk to you all soon,
Tim.

for the rusty nuts and bolts try INOX, you can get it from supercheap, it snot cheap but it works.
dates can be found on the following items
starter
generator
distributor
voltage regulator
wiper motor
light switch
wiper switch
and i think the ignition switch has a date
make a note of ALL the dates and you will have a good idea of when it was built
there are some forum members that will have a better idea from the numbers on the plates that you have

seeing as you are in Brisbane if you like come along to the display day on the 17th October at ormiston state school to see some original and modified minors, we generally get around 50+ Minors

Looks the same as mine Blue Ute in the same sort of condition . I must start some serious work soon.
Yours is after 1956 as one piece winncreens started 1957 for utes and before 1961 as utes and vans had indicators by then with a small added light under tailight. Yellow Sedan
Good Luck with it.

I would suggest from the registration number it is a 1957 model. How do you tell a car ia assembled in Brisbane?

Good to see one more Ute being saved.

Are you going to save the patina? there are some great wax coating you put over the faded paint to preserve it.

If you post the details of your ID tag I should be able to date it for you.

Bruce

bigcarle - have tried it all, just cant wait for it to soak in and take effect so i cutting them off lol. and will be at the show with bells on. dont think the morrie will be done by then though lol.

kustombruce - will grab the numbers off tomorrow and post them up for ya. will be getting a coat of gloss black when shes done, not a fan of dull green honestly plus there is heaps of surface rust. oh and by the way i love your ute, its the reason i got mine.

Black is a lot (read 4 times) more work than a light colour to prepare for paint. If you have the skills and time the result is worth it.

I think this green (poison ivy) on the new commodores would suit the curves on a minor.

Remember to take lots of photos.

Bruce

hi bludger
glad your coming to the display day, i think you will get many ideas and hints from the various owners
if you like your ute doesn't need to be complete as the display day is for ANY morrie in ANY condition.
we have had incomplete morries on trailers in the past
looking forward to meeting you and any one else on the forum, i will be the "young santa" showing you where to park
cheers

Hi bludger,
yes Carle and I normally share the parking duties on the day.

Your ute looks to be Silver Pine Green in colour and at a guess
maybe 1957/58/59 as the wiper stand has a square top. The corner
was angled after this date.

It will be good to catch up with you on the display day.

So the ute has some real rust in the front meaning i'll be ordering some parts for it from bullmotif soonish when i saved some cah up. Since the ute is nearing full stripped stage i have also started stripping my sedan i got free with my ute and found no rust in it! I also found some interesting items in the tray under the dash, rego receipt from 1959 for the car in perfect condition, racq membership card for the owner from 1959 also in perfect condition which said 6 years membership on it already at that stage, 2 pennys ('27&'52), and some receipt's for random things like 10cent toll for the hornibrook highway. The car is now goin to be put on the road again aswell cause its in such good condition i dont want to see it get wasted, plus seeing some history made me feel connected to it. However there is one problem with this car, it has no nuffield plate . Has some numbers on it and was still regoed in '07 according to the rego sticker on the windscreen with the same rego number from 1959 on the receipt i found. Can i just stamp a new plate and be done with it? Will call a QT during the week to see if i can get some details on the car to try and work out getting it regoed again. Has a BMF plate and a number stamped on the wall below the plate so will see if any of them match the detail on the QT system. Any info on this subject would be much appreciated Very Happy . Will start a thread for it aswell during the week once i get some pics together of it.
Thanks heaps, Tim.

The small brass one would be the Howard's stock No. plate

The Morris Minor center in Sydney or any Mini specialist will have blank Nuffield plates.
