Well I have had my baby for about 14yrs. Bought it from my best mates father when I was a 2nd yr apprentice. Have known the ute for about 20yr.
Gave it a resto about 6yrs ago and it sat in the shed for 5yrs untill getting rego about 8mnths ago....

Has the original 948 engine ( although the plate says 1098 UTE...? ) with matching serial numbers, bench seat that was re-upholstered, and close to matching paint colour. Althought it has a celica 5 speed, which the previous owner put in about 20yrs ago. Was one of Kelly Products ( Morris Minor World, Sydney..)first conversion kits..Thge only other change is the 14" wheels that are made from morry centers welded into steel rims. That way I can still run hub caps with better tyres

Gets driven to work every day, which is about 50km round trip. Unfortunatly it needs new rings, but as it is on its last bore and crank grind, the block is going to get sleeved and the head fitted with new valves and seats to run on un-leaded....

There is life in the old girl yet, and there is no way I will ever sell it

Pictures......Very Happy Blue Ute

MorryStu

I think you find the plate says 1081 type not 1098....................the chassis numbers and letters will confirm a 948 or 1098

Cheers

Russ

You are right....It does say MORRIS 1081 UTE...manufactured at Zetland in Sydney ( for some reason I had 1098 on the brain ) with 950 cast into the block..

Is there a way off telling what year it was made...myself and the previous owner reckon it is a 1960 ish model...

Just cant stop myself from driving it into town and watching everyone point and stare...even young kids.. Very Happy Blue Convertible

The mechanic loves it, and the radiator bloke reckons its one of the best radiators that he has had to repair cause it was nice and clean....made of real brass..

Morry Stu

Nice looking pick-up the 103407 is the chassis number whcih confirms the ute as a 1960 (early). the 4 figure is the Australian body number for that year.

Please can you e-mail some of the photos in hi-res for the Minor LCV Regsiter archives for possible use

Cheers

Exciting to see,

I have Morris Minor Ute (Zetland)

Model Morris 1081 Ute
Typ Y JB A U 3R
Chassis 8 103479 2581
Engine No 9MU H 413281

Vehicle is located in Perth Western Australia

In the chassis number i believe the 8 refers to 1960, 103479 is the UK chassis number and 2581 is the australian build sequence number.

The "1081" denotes the BMC Drawing Office number for 948/1098 LCVs.

General consensus by Russ & me is the YJB system began when Australian Commercial Vehicles had to display gvw weights - in lbs - although it is worth mentioning this year saw LCVs also being assembled at the MG factory in Abingdon.

Ongoing research as always, suggestions welcome.

Well, I am back

Things have changed a bit. The paint is still the same, but it got a broken nose when it rolled into a concrete wall, so now it has no bumper bar and a dark green grill and stripe that runs up the bonnet

Now, the motor...

Well I found out it could take +60 998 pistons punching it out to 1046cc.
Got a nice Waggot cam ground, basically a Police Cooper S cam with a bit extra with a 1275 intake and 1-1/2 SU and Maniflow exhaust headers..

I now pulls 110-115kmh on the highway fairly easy now

.......and I have a big journal 1098 Healy motor as a new motor that will have a 12G295 and a Graham Russell cam bored out to 1215cc...
