We changed the alternator / ignition light out for a led light now it Won’t excite and go out and alternator won’t charge Tried to put a resistor in the line to help excite, the led but it won’t go out.
Put the old globe back in place it all works.
Anyone come across this problem?
Can you change it ?
And how did you sort it out

Cheers in advanced

Tristan

The alternator exciter circuit needs a 12v feed for it to kick in. You'll find it will self excite if you give the engine a rev.
The LED is a diode which only allows current to flow one way, in your case from the alternator to the battery. It won't allow current from the battery to the alternator for the exciter circuit to operate.
