I have just fitted a set of early Torana disc brakes, which were on a Morry, onto my 54 MM ute. Wheels won't fit Buggar. The wheels are mini lite type wheels which seem to be 3 inches between stud centres but the disc brake hubs seem to be 2.75 inches. Help!

Did the wheels fit before you put the disc brakes on?.I have the same disc brakes on my 1960 Morry and I have Minilites 14x5.5 and I have no issues the P.C.D is 4 inches or 101.6.

just reread your post if the disc brakes are early torana as you say the stud pattern{PCD} should be 4inch or 101.6 are you measuring them right

Stud to stud on the disc brakes measures 73mm. Mag wheel measures 85mm stud to stud.

On a 4 stud, measure across opposite studs to get the PCD (pitch circle diameter).

I suspect the ute has had the early hub/brakes fitted which are 4.5" where as the Torana & later Minor are 4".
I've not had much to do with the early commercials but I thought they all had the later hubs.

PCD stands for Pitch Centre Diameter which means from stud to centre of Hub.
So 101.6 centre of stud to centre of hub. have not fitted Torana but have fitted Austin sprite and stud pattern works.

My Morry did have Morris Major Elite front brakes. Is the pcd for Majors 4.5 inches?

That would be PCR (pitch circle radius) John .

Majors are the same as Minor.

The wheels you are trying to fit are 114.3 which are for small Japanese vehicles ie.Datsun 1200 Toyota corolla etc.

The Torana discs came off one of my cars and had the original pizza cutter wheels. So back to the drawing board. Bit of a lot of a nuisance for Rod.

I now have disc brakes on front to suit Morry wheels but rear setup with Datsun hubs, wheels. This exercise is costing a fortune. If anybody located not too far from A.C.T. Has a MM1000 that they are doing up and would like to swap wheels, tyres, hubs, etc. I have a great set of performance 15 X 6 mags and tyres to suit Datsun or similar, rear hubs etc also.

Its easier to re-drill new roters to suit the stud pattern ( illegal )

OR

Buy blank rotors and get them drilled to suit

Try DBA ( Disk Brakes Australia ) direct and see what they can do

That still wont fix your wheel not fitting

Can you change diff and axles back to Morris I would suggest a Morris Major Elite 4.22 to 1 and fine splines 8 inch rear brakes.

The definitive answer, I've had time to take a closer look at the drums, life has been hectic. They're obviously off an early Datsun.

As with so many Datsun things from that time, they're a knock off from BMC and A-series stuff in general. The backing plates are identical to the Major backing plates, but the hubs and drums are all drilled at the larger PCD. At a cursory glance they looked Major, but the reality is they're Datsun. Rod and I are unswapping the swap! It seemed like a good idea at the time!

Thanks to all for the very helpful input.

D
