Driving to work this morning, wipers and indicators stopped working, thought fuse must have blown, checked and it was good, turns out fuse holder is faulty, have bypassed with fused wire link till I get home and swap it out, has anyone else had this drama

Grant, not sure about where it is "faulty" but they are well known for electrolysis between the fuse retainers(the brass bits) and the fuse itself causing high resistance. Probably because of the dissimilar metals.

I tried cleaning up fuse holder with brasso and scotchbrite, will put a megger on it when I remove it to see where the HR is.

It's only a Morris Minor fuse holder. They don't come much simpler.
Start throwing this high tech stuff at it & it'll pack it in for sure.
Very Happy

A megger is used to check insulation resistance using a high voltage. A high reading is good (Mega-ohms). You need a ohmmeter and a very low reading eg. 0 is good. Cleaning the fuse holder and fuse is the go.

We have a megger that is also a bonding meter ie very low ohms in the same unit, it is used on aircraft, so when I pull my finger out I will check the problem properly

I finally fixed the fuse holder on the weekend, there was high resistance between the post and the tang, I dropped the whole lot in some hydrochloric acid for 30 sec then in a neutralising solution , works fine now
