I have bought a new coil for my 1100 Engine although it is running well on the old one.
Question is do I need to fit resistor as stated on the coil?
It is a Bosch GT40 .
I did try it on the and the car started and run well, but I took it off before Club run on Sunday. Yellow Sedan Yellow Convertible Eye Rolls Eye Rolls Eye Rolls

no you shouldn't require a resistor - it is there to modify spark, you will get a better spark without it, just don't leave the key on without the engine running as the coil can overheat more quickly, make sure the points gap is set correctly also, as more spark can jump around in the dist and give you wierd firing

John, are you saying the coil states to use a resistor ??
If so, it's a GT40R, not a GT40.

The GT40R is a 9volt coil which is why the resistor is needed (to reduce 12v to 9v).
The resistor is bypassed when starting to allow for the battery to drop down to 10v or 11v while cranking & still allow a good spark to the engine.

If you use a resistor coil without a resistor, it will only last a short while.

If you use a resistor coil without a resistor it will not last long!
As stated above get a GT40 coil NO R. Blue Ute
