Austin, Welcome to the forum.
If the body number starts with 357---- (I think there may be one digit missing) to my reckoning it is closer to a 1955. 1954 was the change over to the centre speedo and horizontal grille.
Shocked I may be wrong Shocked

I think Tom is right, It's around a late 54-55, if it has it's original engine look at all the lucas parts they are dated, gen, starter, wiper motor, regulator, fuse box etc, some might have been replaced over the yrs but if you find a few with the same date your laughing.
Austin I'm not insulting you, Very Happy ( a mate was over hear stressing over what yr his traveller is the other day Embarassed ) but it amazes me how much people stress over what year there car is when it really dosen't matter, either MM early or late series II, 1000 or series V is all that really matters.
Your ute is an early series II

This is where using electrical parts can be a problem.
If your car is a split screen it can't be a 1956. 1955 would be the latest.
All 56' had one piece screens. It could have had a later wiper fitted at some stage.
My sedan is the opposite, everything shows it to be a 1955 including glass code, most elect parts and chassis number, but it has a one piece screen and large rear window.

Go figure......... Shocked

Austin, call yours a 1955 Very Happy Yellow Ute

I don't want to sound fussy, but the series II was built until september 24th 1956. So it could be a sII!

Onne is right the 1000 was phased in in mid 56 so you can have a series II or 1000 56.
I was talking to an old bloke from Zetland (my uncle put me onto him thats how the Bmc leyland heritage group got involved with the car clubs) where our KND kits where built, he said the cars where sent out from england in packs of 6 cars, 6 floor pressings, turets, engines, etc, but we didn't put those 6 cars together , they were unrapped & stored for assembly so things got mixed up, he said england would change something small on morrie " Convertable hood modified, Tension wire discontinued" this happened in Nov 51 at nuffield, they would not inform australia of the change, so the production line would just, work out a way of making it fit, sometimes they didn't even notice the modification, so you can have a later car with an early part, depending on who pulled it off the shelf, that it why we have what they called"transition models" he recalled seeing parts with reject written on them then this was crossed out & export australia written instead, they knew they would never be sent back.
sorry for rambling

According to my info, the 1000 model wasn't released in Australia until early 1957.
The UK had them by late 1956 but with the delay in shipping & assembly here, it was 1957 by the time they were ready here.

Something similar still happens today....

A few years ago, MG shipped a heap of MGFs to Japan.
Japan wouldn't accept them due to quality issues so they were sent on to Australia Mad .

Just before that, we had a few odd Land Rovers turn up in strange colours & specification.
It turns out they were factory stuff ups & they sent them out here because we were too far away to send them back Eye Rolls .

Austin

35787 equates to a late 1955, however a 1955 not a 1956.

I would welocme some photos ofthe ute please
