From memory the wire comes from the alternator spade to the ignition globe then to the ignition on power wire coming out of the ignition switch.
When the engine starts power runs down to the alternator tickling the windings to fire the alternator up & cancel the ignition light out. if the ignition globe blows then the alternator wont start charging unless you give it a big bootfull of revs to kick it off (with the bosh ones anyway)

That's right Trev.

We are talking about the small wire here, aren't we. Not the thick wire that goes to the battery.
Yes? .......

.....good.

I'm about to embark on a similar project. (Wiring a Laser column, into a Morris with a Datsun motor.) I am using an aftermarket wiring harness that seems to be laid out rather well, but we'll see what happens Shocked

Yeah the heavy charge wire of the bolt like connection goes strait to the pos on the battery if your using an internal regulated alternator.

Me too, but I keep running into problems that take a bit to get solved, and my "other" project car has been keeping me busy as well.

Too many cars and never enough time or money.
