The other thing I was just thinking is that cutting the top is going to change the caster setting. you might have to modify the shock arm to trunnion mounting or lengthen the tie bar

If I get the top right the caster will be the same, but yes the tie bars will need to be modified as the mounting point is closer I can machine down the front shoulder and tap the thread longer.
I will take a tad more off the top arms to give it some camber angle.

The caster will change as you take meat off the top arm. As you move the arm in the mounting point is moving back as that arm is on a 45 deg angle. If the top arm was paralell to the bottom one all you would have to worry about would be camber but the arm is on a 45 deg plain from the lower arms so you will need to make a new mounting to keep the king pin inclination the same or leave the tie bar the same length or longer which will push the bottom back to keep the KPI the same as standard.

Gee its hard to put on paper what you mean sometimes but i hope you can understand what i mean

Doing well, just trying to survive the short and cold days here down under.
progress has been slow on Clockwork, but hope to get in the the old girl in the next month.

As you can see I had to take a dramatic change in direction to get it OK for rego.

Robbo
Not yet, I have been helping a few friends with their cars, plus I purchased a 1960 caravan to go with my Zephyr.
But the good news is the garage is clear of others cars and the ute is in the middle of the garage. ready to have the front guards taken off then I can get into finishing off the cabin and doing the rest of the panel beating.

I am also taking long service leave all of September and October so I can spend the time getting it finished.

I hope to have some new photos up soon.

Bruce

Some updates. A lot of work done while on holidays, including

Roof lining in place (still have to make a fiberglass back section) and paint the roof pod.

Amp covers painted in Candy orange and some carpet laid down, stereo all working (and it's loud).

Cabin in first coat of Black base, will need another coat as some of the scratches are still visible, rear window frame polished.

More Black

Some bits painted in silver

Windscreen to be cut down about 4", the rest of the glass is being made with grey tint.

I was going to cut the glass with an angle grinder, lots of how to's on the net, but the reality of it is any slight increase of pressure with the grinder will crack the glass. I have practices on a few old screens and have not made one clean cut with out cracking.

So I will use a local glass cutter who has cut down a few screens for Hot Rodders around town, he uses a glass cutter to score both sides of the screen and cracks it, then heats up the cut and cuts the laminate with a Stanly knife.

At $120 a screen I hope we don't break to many.

Robbo, I might still get to Port next year Very Happy .

my understanding is that the hot rodders grind the glass down.
with laminated you score each side then use methylated spirits to dissolve the centre laminate.
go to oldholden.com.au and post a question for streetneat, he can probably advise how to go about it.

Mowog
Grinding is OK for small amounts, they use a big belt sander, but with 4" to cut it would take all day, so not economical.

A lot of the things I have noticed on the web is the examples are by people who work with the stuff as a trade, so have all the black magic needed to do it right. when you only do a task once, it's not as easy.

That is why I will take the screen to the professionals.

Back to work tomorrow after 8 weeks off.
I got a few thing done and at least I know I can get it finished.

Steering wheel painted

Insides of doors painted and covered in Fatmat

doors fitted up and short bonnet spear mounted on bonnet

Roof pod painted, it's now getting air brushed with the Clockwork logo and wording.

Switch plate finished

Now I'm working on getting the bonnet to fit before it gets painted

Having a play with some nylon rod and a lathe.
Result - One bullet wheel center.

I will make another center with the late model horn button, but make it fit better than the factory one which is 10mm larger that the center of the wheel.
I still might use this one (once it's painted and put the horn button under the dash.

Till next time.Very Happy

Windscreen cut down

Door glass fitted - need to be re made as it's only 4 mm when I ordered 6mm

Back window (sun roof)

Finally getting some sunshine and warm weather so I have been in the garage working on the Ute.
so a few updates:

Bullet steering wheel center finished

Stereo amp rack finished

Front edge of bonnet reshaped, Why you ask
well I will be putting a 4" candy orange stripe down the middle and didn't like how the center ridge flows out at the bottom of the bonnet, so i smoothed it out.

Next week I hope to get the front guards finished and set the tray back on the rear so I can re shape it.

Thanks

Bruce

Amp rack is an MDF frame with polyester cloth stretched over it, fiberglass resin, a bit of bog to smooth out some bits and a few coats of paint.
Sounds easy right . As with most things I do it always takes a few goes to get it right.
