Hi Folks,
Still progressing well on the resto. Had a question on flasher units...
I purchased one from the UK as I was ordering some chrome from them and figured I might as well get a flasher unit as well. On hooking it up I flicked the indicator switch, got two "clicks" then the unit virtually caught fire! Lots of smoke and very nasty smell. Needless to say it is stuffed now!
On the baseplate there were three terminals. X, L and one I thought was R (It was partially obscured by the terminal). I figured this was "Earth", "Left" and "Right". Obviously wrong! Having pulled it to bits I now see that the "R" is in fact a "P".
I have two cables coming in from the dash, one from the fusebox and one to the switch. Does anyone know how I should wire up the new flasher unit (which I'll just grab from supercheap or somewhere)
Finally, fuel pump not working. Is it worth restoring, or should I just buy a new one from Bull Motif for AUS$120?
Cheers!

OK, cool thanks Tom. So I don't need to earth the flasher unit at all?
My car doesn't have an internal indicator (same interior as MM) so I will think about how to incorporate one sensitively into the dash...

One other thought...
I want to have my original trafficators as well as the flashing indicators.
So far I have wired them onto the switch together with the new indicators. If the flasher unit is between the fuse and the switch does this mean the trafficators will get "flashed" as well? If so, how should I wire so that they stick out (and stay out) and the indicators flash?

Thanks Guys
As my car is an early 53 803 (with the MM style interior) I think what I will do is fit a new indicator switch just for the flashers and use the original unit for just the trafficators. So I can use the flashers in day to day use and still have the trafficators there just for originality.
I assume the switch I will need for flashers is just a 12 volt 2 pole switch?
Cheers

They did have a big bakelight one that sat under the dash, I recently gave the last on I had away. Shouldn't be too hard to find.
