Just a short question,I was always of the opinion that it was better for a fuel pump to push petrol rather than suck it so wouldn't it be more practical to have the pump located closer to the tank,eg under the floor at the rear, near level with the tank outlet or at least as close to the tank as possible??

Morris fuel pumps I think are designed this way. But, if you are replacing a Morris pump with an aftermarket electric one, certainly place it at the back near the fuel tank. They are designed to push. There are a couple of threads with pics of fuel pumps mounted near the tank - Morrx is one of them I think

Yes, Minors have a 'puller' pump. It works quite well in English conditions but does struggle sometimes in the Australian heat. Shielding the fuel pipe near the exhaust helps but normally the pumps are OK where they are.
The Mini has a 'pusher' pump & most, if not all, aftermarket ones are the same.
