Well Nancy what a difference. You should be very happy.

Im not usually a black car person but I may have to change my mind. You know what they say-

'once you've gone black you will never go back'

Looks great, now the fun part - putting all that shiny chrome back on

We are really very happy with the result. BB will sit now till Easter long weekend when we will give her a buff and polish. Then she will really shine with a mirror finish. That too will be exciting and of course require more pics to be posted.

Getting her back together after that will be just as enjoyable as everything to this point.

Again heaps of thanks to hubby who did all the spraying today.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Hi Libbor

It took us all day to ensure we got it as good as we could. I really was just the compressor "hose watcher" to make sure it didn't get caught up on anything or twisted and then "inspector" to see if there were any areas missed or needed to fix. Greg really did all the hard work with great results and he has learned a lot himself over the course of doing the restore which has come in handy for his projects.

Hi All

Today's update, Greg did the cut and polish today and BB looks fantastic. One thing is for sure black is going to be hard to keep dust free, it attracts the dust so easily. So here are some pics, more at http://s1008.photobucket.com/home/BlackBeauty1953/index.

The shine is just amazing and the reflection is terrific. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Tomorrow off to Clark Rubber to pick up some rubber liners/inserts for the rear guards. Then all can be tightened up secure.

G'day Nancy

If you are looking for ideas on the front indicators for your car hear is what I did.

I changed my head lights to ones with the parkers included, then replaced the parker units with indicator units I got from Pommy Ebay.
It looks original and no need for more holes.

Cheers
Graham

Thanks Graham, I like your idea it certainly looks like the indicators belong.

What about the rear? Just have to add another hole to accommodate indicators I am guessing. Open to any suggestions.

Mine had VW tail lights on it when I got it, which blend in quite well.

Later English models had a similar light unit which show up on EBay from time to time.
Or if you want to keep it looking original I have seen cars with smallish LED units mounted under the bumper.
It is fun working out what look you want isn't it, so many options.

Cheers
Graham

Hi All

More work has been accomplished on Black Beauty and all the small items have been painted in their appropriate colour. Gold dash, silver entry steps, and other bits and pieces. So today we have put the dash back together. And here is final results, she looks fantastic.

We have also added some "bling" with new bonnet hinges and boot hinges as well. So BB is coming together nicely.

Next is some minor touch ups around her and get her windscreen and rear window as well as the 2 rear permanent windows.

The other item done was the front grill with the silver insert painted, it really looks great too.

P.S: if anyone is in need of some FREE gold paint I have almost a full tin left (3/4's of a litre). It would have to be pick up from North Ipswich Qld or Murarrie Qld (by appointment)

Wow Nancy.
That is looking very swanky.

Q.? To you and any others with knowledge .

I have a 53 as well, Mine is a 4 door, it all looks the same however my cheesegrater part seems to be all one part and not chrome/bronze or as good looking as yours is Nancy.

Are there different models ? is mine just a poor relative ?

Do I need to get the scrubbing brush out ?

Keep up with the pictures Nancy. Your car is looking a treat..

Best.... Very Happy
Leigh

Hi Leigh

Thanks for the feedback, I really love how well the dash has come up.

I am not sure regarding other models of the grill but I know with mine it was silver with the black surround and it is all one piece. All original. Plus Black Beauty is an import back in '53 and is all British, that may have something to do with it, I don't know. Someone here on the forum will know.

Best Regards
Nancy

Hi Leigh and Nancy.
The earlier Morries had a separate chrome grill
insert for the grill surround.

Later ones had a one piece steel grill and surround.
The "grill" portion of these are normally "painted silver"
on the black cars.

This was initially due to a shortage of Nickel during the Korean war
and then as a cost saving measure after.

Hi Libbor,

I've had a very anxious day, trying to salvage anything from the previous owner and the garage that did the original roadworthy. At the end of many phone calls and heated words, the lady I brought it off felt so bad she has offered to give me $2000 back towards getting the car back on the road.

I spoke to the mechanic that did the road worthy in NSW and he didn't seem to give a dam, so I spoke to my panel beater who said I should report him. So he is getting a full roadworthy inspection done, as well as a structure report from him with photos and I am going to send it to the mechanic in NSW and see what they have to say. Short of that, I will send the reports to the RTA with the original roadworthy and give these guys some heat.

After all that, my panel beater is going to do some work to get rid of the bad rust and get her back on the road, and later down the track when I save up some more money, I will concentrate on the cosmetic stuff and get her looking smick.

Did you mangae to get to the National Rally?

Kel

Hi Kel

You know, it really good to see that there are still some people with a heart That is really generous and beyond the the call of duty as far as the previous owner goes. Pity we can't say the same for the 'authorised inspector' Please keep me posted on how you get on with him/them.

Yes I did get to the rally, it was fantastic. Great weather. It turned nasty on Monday night when it didnt matter at all

When do you hope to get yours back. Did you manage to get some help from your local club?

Keep in touch

Darren

Hi Kelly

I'm sorry to read you have had some unforeseen hiccups. Don't let this damper your enthusiasm, every car will have its ups and downs. Hope everything sorts itself out for you.

Regarding Black Beauty, the dash is really great and I'm now at the stage of getting the screens both front and rear and the 2 side ones in.

So really it is now a matter of buying parts to get her back together.

Best regards
Nancy

Hi All

Just a quick update on Black Beauty. I have placed 2 orders on ESM over the weekend to provide me with the entire Maroon interior which was in her originally. This order is however going to take 6-8 weeks before I see it as they are made to order. My second order (11.1 kgs) has already been despatched from good old UK and I can expect that next week. This order is the window rubbers, more "bling" badges, carpet, rear number plate glass etc. So it is now all very exciting and I can't wait till it arrives.

I must say ESM have been terrific with their advice and support and their processing of all my orders has been just perfect. They always packed and despatch first working day and although it takes up to 10 days to get here, it is well worth it. They package everything perfectly and provide tracking details on large orders. I would highly recommend them if you are looking for parts.

Best Regards
Nancy

Hello All

Well today my order arrived today containing 25 pieces. It was so exciting to open the box and see all the new parts and rubbers and of course the bling. Here are some shots of the carpet laid in Black Beauty to make sure it was the right one and fitted. It looks so good and really fantastic, the pictures don't do it justice at all. In real vision the maroon really stands out.

Will keep you posted with more pics as I get more new parts and "bling" on her.

Nancy,

I am currently looking at buying new trim from ESM for my two door, what sort of postage did you have to pay to get it to Aus?

cheers,

Kieran
