I am currently working on a ute restoration . Yellow Ute Blue Ute
Mine is a 1962 model with indicators in the front parkers having twin elements flashing white. Also numbered 1081 model.
Mine is fitted from new with a 948cc engine. Only very late models were 1098 engines, I managed to buy a low comp. LCV engine (60 thou overbore) and am currently running it in my current 4 door.

Thanks for the replies Guys, would this one would be one of the last built in aus,
It is origional and has the 1098 and ribbed case box and from memory the regulator is stamped 63
The origional rims are wider also they are on a sedan in the barn.
She [Bumpy] is what the kids call her use to jump out of third so i was using the gear box out of the sedan.
What is the going price for these as is and or restored.

1098 LCV were rare here in Australia ( not so in New Zealand) the few build here were because of utility buyers, County Councils Water Boards etc, complaining about the engine power and of course better vehicles like Holden. None were fitted with wider wheels as they were in UK and of course UK had 6cwt and 8 cwt versions.
The other interesting thing is late models in UK 1968 on were in Austin or Morris variants. The first of badge engineering. Austins had a different grill, bonnet badge and horn button the engines were black and they had plain hubcaps.
All Light Commercial Vehicles had low comp engines (the difference is the piston dish) and were stamped LC in the engine number.
Price?? $1000-$3000 unrestored Fully restored depending on quality and what the buyers want $6000-$12000
Mine is being rebuilt as an Austin. Yellow Ute Red Ute

there should be dates on other accessories on the car as follows
generator
starter
voltage regulator
fuse box
wiper motor
light and wiper switch
so if you have found a '63 on the regulator and if you find '63 on some of the other stuff you can say it is roughly a '63.
others on this forum can give you clearer idea on dates from the numbers on the build plate

It's about as late as they come for local LCV's.

Looks like your parts came out of the pars bin as a June LCV I have details on has a later build number than yours 159455.

Hi Wally

Take a look at the wheels on the raised areas that the hub caps clip onto.

Can you see LP917 stamped onto one of each wheel?

If yes, they are factory 4.5 inch wheels.

Cheers
Don

Thanks for reading cheers Wally

Hi all
4.5 inch were not available here in Aus. and Major rims are only 4.00 inch
All Morris wheels are stamped with size and date of manufacture on the inside of the rims.
So you need to take the tyres off to read it.
My ute had 5 with 1962, however my car had wheels from 1957 to --1962.
Most parts can be replaced from other cars.
My ute is a1962 with factory indicators white front and using extra light at rear it is a 948cc with smoothcase gearbox.
1098 motors were introduced to try and compete against the Holdens offered to councils and goverment depts in early 1963 ( I did some research on this for Minor Monthly some years ago)
On the tailgate I had a bottom panel 100mm high made for mine from Peter Jackson at Glouster ( old- Era -Sevices I think) NSW fitted perfectly and I had a good welder tig weld it on. Red Ute Blue Ute Eye Rolls

Wally and Whittler

Most factory 4.5 inch rims had LP917 stamped on one of the hubcap lugs, but some of mine don't. As John says, they do all have the specification stamped on the inside of the rims, and so you will only see this with the tyres and tubes taken off.

The 4.5 inch rims are very rare in Oz -- as John says, if they are wider than normally seen on Minors, and they are spot welded (i.e. they seem to be a factory product), it is much more likely that they are the 4 inch rims as fitted to Morris Majors.

Cheers
