Think i've got a problem with the wipers on my ute. They go a nearly full 180 off the side of the car, apart from damaging the paint(needs a paint job anyway) it may hurt someone some day. is this normal? ive brought it up with some people at meets, havent been to many though but they all seem to scratch their heads?.

Also the little clips(?) that hold the wiper onto the spindle, anyone know where i can get one of these tiny things from?

Errr......No Eye Rolls .
Are the wipers Minor or has the motor been swapped for some other type?

If standard Minor, then does this only happen when driving at speed?
If so, it can be due to wear in the cable/spindle gears.

The little clips are probably best sourced from a wrecker or from another Minor wiper arm (if they are removeable at all.....I haven't tried).
New wiper arms are available though if you get stuck.

I suspect you must either have a motor off something else with a bigger driven gear or the spindles that attach to the cable are off something else and are geared wrong ie landrover or jag or something

That is the unit in the car, not sure of its origin. It happens all the time speed doesn't effect it at all. The earth polarity has been changed from original that could have affected it? i also noticed that the tops on the spindles are very loose, in fact a little bit of black stuff fall out but the main shaft doesn't seem loose Eye Rolls

Hi Mike,
Looks like it's not a Minor wiper motor. The year of manufacture is 1969, so unless that's the year of your ute........... Eye Rolls .
The other numbers might refer to angles; I'm not too sure on those needed for the Minor.
If it does it all the time, then it's not going to be a wear issue. You'll get a bit of movement in the spindles but not enough to throw the wipers off the screen while the car's stationary.
The black stuff is probably what remains of the spindle seals - not a big issue.

Hi Mike , welcome to the forum
Where abouts in brisbane are you??
The problem may be that the pin on the internal cog *may* have come adrift and so upsetting the degrees of arc of the wipers - you can easily take the top off the unit insitu (carefully) and have a look
cheers
Very Happy

Thanks guys, im on the bayside. its not fun driving in pouring run and hardly seeing a thing, i'll investigate this pin see if its the problem.

As for the year the car was made, im not sure now i thought and was told it was a 56, first of the one piece windscreens but i went searching for the codes on the plate a while ago and they didn't match anything. I'll have another search see what i come up with.

I don't have any early 1000 wiper motors at home but the "75450D" on your wiper motor is the same number on my 1970 sedans wiper motor.
Maybe a later "parallel wiper" motor has been fitted instead of a "clap hands" type.
The sweep angle is greater on the later wiper motors which would be a problem when fitted to an earlier 1000.

When I got my wiper motor back from the reconditioner it did the same.

If you loosen the top plate and turn the cap that has the wire on it it will adjust how far the the arms go before the return. Something to do with the contacts on the underside of the cap that control the motor

That's to adjust the park position of the wiper arms. It doesn't control the sweep angle Eye Rolls .

MMMM

Well it seemed to work for me. I just pulled the arms of the spindles and put them back on so they where flat at the base of the windscreen. When I first got it back they arms went right past the edge of the windscreen

Shocked

Hi, there are three different types of wiper sweep 100 deg , 110 deg and the 150deg
The first two come from the 948cc and the third is from the 1098cc.
Part nos wpr102, 110deg Angle of wipe
wpr103, 100deg " " "
wpr104, 150deg " " "
There are also two gears listed 100deg ,150deg

Part nos 17H2457, 100deg
57H5592 150deg

Check your gearing.

You can redrill a different position on the gear for the pin, move it in slightly, opposing the original position, you will have to disconnect the park & just turn them off at the bottom.

Thread mining Very Happy i was checking out the ESM store and had a look at the wiper motors there. mine definitely looks like a later model 150degree sweep. Am i better off getting an original motor or getting this on redone?

with the sweep angles too, how do i know which one is going to be right the 100 or 110 for my car being is a 62 model?

on the bulk head between the embellishers i have 2 holes punched out are these for screen washing?

Wow I don't think I've seen a 150deg sweep, must be off one of the landcrabs, morris 1100 etc.
