Thanks Bill, Ive read about that morry on one of the british sites. Ive been thinking about going a similar route with the way the original builder dealt with the suspension.

Finally started on the roof chop. Still got a long way to go. 4" from the a pillars and 6" from the rear. The rear may go down more as my brother in law and I work in the window and series II swage line. Here are some photos of the progress.

Spent a few hours today with my brother in law working on the roof....lot of time for little to show but we're getting there.

The rear window is now sitting 3" inboard of its original location, giving it a coupe look.

cheers
Mark

Wow. Impressive bit of work you've got ahead of you there. Can't wait to see this play out. You'd have an amazing set of before and after pictures if you took some. No one would believe you once it's finished.

Its been a long time since I posted anything on this and to be honest, nothing has changed.

My time , money and anxiety levels have all been directed at my Falcon. Not sure if I mentioned it earlier, but the engine builder fitted the wrong timing chain that resulted in a knocking noise and excessive crankcase pressure issues. After a lengthy discussion/debate with the engine builder we came to an agreement and the engine got rebuilt. Using this as an opportunity to do something a little bit different, I modified Holden 6 Gilmer drives for the Ford 221 engine. Initial run in was to occur last Saturday but a thermo fan issue and a Gilmer drive issue halted the run in process 5 minutes into the process. Most of those issues have been resolved and the Falcon should be back on the road next week, at which time in can be parked in its own "garage within a shed" so that I can cut, weld, grind on the Morry without damaging the Falcon.

A fortnight ago I was offered a rolling 1000 to help me progress my Minor build which I am now dubbing "Minor Distraction". I hope to be back into it real soon Very Happy

Finally some progess......

Original damaged inner wing

Spot welds drilled out

Damaged panel removed but I forget to take a photo of the new panel in place

Same process completed on the other side, although neither are welded in as yet as I want to temporarily attach panels to make sure they in the right spots

Front and rear guards were attached temporarily to gauge the roof chop before I start welding it in properly

Hopefully further updates in a couple of weeks

I acquired a 120y diff from a mate who is running one under his Morry, including 120y front discs. The 120y diff measures 1310mm in comparison to the original diff at 1355mm. Is anyone running a 120y diff and front brakes????

Given I had ripped out the old shagged diff, I decided Id try the 120y diff. It fits but the offset on the rims means the tyres foul on the inner rear wings.

This is the look Im hoping for...........once I work out how

The 120Y diff can be too narrow. If you can find one, a Sunny diff is wider than the 120Y and a more suitable width. I can't recall the dimensions at the moment, there may be some older topics on here with more detail.

I think there is also a stack of detail on the datsun1200 website also.

Thats what quite a few folk's have been telling me Matthew but what Im thinking is that by using the 120Y diff I dont need to shorten it to get maximum rubber under it.

I was in the shed this evening just briefly to grab something and I saw my xp falcon spare wheel in the corner and it clicked that the early falcons have the same pcd as Datsun. So I thought what the hell lets have a look......

I need to fit another early falcon rim on the other side to be sure but from eye balling it off, it looks like I will get 1/2" clearance on both sides of the tyre.

With the right offset rims, you can do anything, but depending on your front brake setup, it is likely that the offset of your front wheels will be different to your rear wheels, with more dish at the rear. This may suit you but spares problem etc may not be to your liking - up to you.

the widest tyre I've heard of fitting under a standard non-widened sedan rear guard is a 205, I may stand corrected on that one, it's a very close fit to both the inside and outside.

Thanks for the feedback Matthew B

Did some body work this weekend focussing on the catwalk....its tacked in at this stage till the rest of the roof is completed.

Still weighing my options on diffs but think I will end up going ke55 for the sheer fact that its a proven replacement over the original.

Hi Mark. Looking good, but can you get it to sit lower? No such thing as too low, except in Mr Plod's eyes, but what would he/she know.
Cheers Jon

Sounds interesting. Looking forward to hearing the details.
P.m. Some details if you want to keep it quiet in the short term.
I have also been doing a fair bit of research into donor chassis swaps,
if allowed by an engineer. Cheers Jon
