Well this is it. One day I will have it finished, I'm sure if its not soon though! Embarassed

Its had a lot of time consuming work. Next I will start work on the roof (it had a shed colapse on it) but compared to straightening the chassis and replacing that corner (yes it did need replacing) it shouldn't take too long. On the up side I have found very little rust. Eye Rolls

A lot of work for you sii803 Eye Rolls .
I hope that N/S rail is strong enough after all that work - is the inside reinforcement OK?
Have you decided which way you're going with the motor (803, 948, 1098 or a combination Very Happy )?

After staightening the nearside rail I replaced it. The welds in the replacement chassis rail I thought not to be satisfactory.

I was not satisfied with the quality of welds holding the reinforcement for the eyebolt or the part that "laps" into the original rail. They were spot welded (with too much voltage by the looks). I plug welded (with a MIG) the existing welds in the replacement rail (as they were hollow).

I also plug welded the new rail to the tie plate and remaining original rail. I also butt welded to the original rail. I did not get distortion, as I was warned by the supplier of the new rail. I put this down to clamping a 3/4" square rod behind the weld, with the clamps directly either side of the weld (I had to make my own hydralic g clamp for this).

I think the drivers side rail is in a good enough condition as i only had to straighten it slightly.

I haven't decided what to do with my motor yet Eye Rolls

First thing I did was sandblast the rusty stuff.

Next I used paint stripper. Then I cleaned up with a wire brush in a die grinder/angle grinder.

It took a very long time though! I am having the bolt offf panels sandblasted and primed by a specialist. I have to wait till he is ready to do a run of panels, as he uses finer grit for panels.

Do it!

I made two trolleys the firts was used to roll the car around on its bottum or its side, as well as act as a frame for my chassis alighnment.

The second one I made like a spit. It is far more usefull. It is entirely made out of steel from the hard rubbish, wheels from my sacktruck, and a second sack truck i bought for its cheap wheels. Very Happy

The spit is really usefull! I can turn the car on any angle, making welding much easier. I can also make most parts of the car at a good working height. I reccomend making one of these to anybody undertaking this work. The day it took me make it has most certainly been recovered.

Cheers,
Matt

I have sent 39 separate panels of to the sandbalster at a cost of $750 and are waiting there return.

However in the mean time I need to sort this paitence testing issue out! None of the roof is much better, but to my advantage I am very stuborn.

It has been getting very cold and wet out in the shed recently in Adelaide. So I have put a cover over my car to keep him warm.

Hopefully some time this week I will get my OXY_LPG set it the mail, this will hopefully help warm him and and straighten some dents.
