Finally after owning it for 25 years and a solid last 3 years of restoration work my Ute is now finished and registered . A bit of fine tuning and cleaning and we are ready to go.
Last job left is the tonneau cover but booked in for next Thursday.
Now I have two registered Morries am I a fleet owner??

Yes it is black quite a lot of yes and no from UK , but in the end Idid paint it black.

My Austin Ute is now back on the road after a new engine was fitted. Nothing at all wrong with other engine pretty new and bored to 998cc, but I needed a project so bought at a extremly good price a 1098cc engine.
New pistons rings and bearings bored out +20 thou with a Sprite 12G202 head hardened valves and seats and 9.5 compression,I of course refitted my twin SU's and extractors.
What held the project up a bit was trying to get a rib cage gearbox and the machining to fit the 1275 MG Midget diaphram clutch.
It goes very well lots of power through the 4.22 diff, only downside clutch is a little heavier.

Hi John

The heavy Sprite clutch is a problem many have encountered. There is a standard fix for this that reduces the effort and gives better sensitivity for the take-up point. The arm on the relay shaft connected to the pedal should be extended by 2.5cm (no more or you might run out of pedal travel) and a new hole drilled at the end for the link to the pedal. PM me if you want more info.

BTW, the 12G202 head is standard on all the 1098 Minors.

The pedal extension on both arms of the relay shaft according to my UK enquiry was 25mm, 2.5rmm seems insignificant unless you mean 2.5 centimeters,

With the head my 997cc Cooper Mini had this head MG 1100 and some Minors. Later Mark 11 Sprites mg was fitted with 12G206
My 1098 engine in my car certainly did not have this head as I still have it having been replaced now with a 12G295.

Hi again John

You are correct -- the required extension of the relay arm is in the region of 2.5cm not 2.5mm. Sorry, it was a typo. BTW, in the information I have seen, it is only one arm, the one connected to the pedal, that is extended. From all accounts I have seen, it will make the ute much nicer to drive. Its a simple mod, so well worth trying, I think.

Vizard's book confirms that Austin/Morris 1098 engines had the 12g202 head.

The MG1100 (brother to the Morris 1100) had a 12g295 (my family had one when I was young--it was a fun car to drive).

Just done some research on MMOC message board. The fix is to use rose jointed fitting on all shafts which I have done plus lengthen the arm on the relay shaft that connects clutch pedal only by 5/8 inch which is 16mm.
Apparently, a smart Minor owner in the UK makes and sells this as a kit a new/modified relay shaft and three rose jointed linkages
I have a spare relay shaft and a good welder living next door so I try it.

The dimension is not critical and will depend on how much pressure you prefer on the clutch pedal. The longer the arm (within limits) the lighter the pressure.
You could have a longer arm with several holes to find the effective length that suits you best.

Are you referring to Declan Burns? I have one of Declan's rose joint clutch kits. He is a hobbyist who manufactures all sorts of excellent parts for Minors and MGs that no commercial manufacturers supply. Declan is British but lives in Germany.

Yes, that's the man. I tried to buy one but ended up making my own rose joints
I have a new relay and a professional welder Neighbour so will get bit extended on the week end.

Declan is a great guy. He is so clever and willing to share his innovations. He doesn't promote his parts and kits so you have to keep your ear close to the ground to find out what he has to offer.

Have a new relay shaft cut with an extension piece made ready for my welder who just happens to live next door.
I look after his electrical problems. He does my welding and some engineered parts
