I just did a search on wiring a complete car and was surprised no posts have been made on the subject

thats the task I have to do
by the wiring diagrame it is easy to follow
so to anyone who has done one

question
1- how do you zap your genny to make it run negitave earth

2-approx how much wire is needed and what thickness of wire should be used for the differnt voltage or can i use all the same thickness of wire

3 -how is the flasher unit wired in to the trafficator circuit

4 -are there any special ways to run earth wires to serve multiple circuits? circuits

5- will the starter run negative earth without changing anything

6 -on my centre round speedo I have no temp sender light which one is meant to show that fault

4 I intend to add more fuses to the rewire to share the load on the wires
5- I didnt realise the fuel pump ran off the coil
6- there is no wiring section for the heater or radio Shocked

got the rear lights and fuel sender worked out light same with the dipper switch and front lights

not the numberplate or brake sender light
thanks for reading

will post things as I think of them

Obviously the best way to rewire is to buy a new harness they can be manufactured with additional cables for indicators spot lights etc . and being built with the right gauge and colours installing is simple but time consuming.
Some answers
Do nothing to starter
The mass of the steel body is your earth return ( except for horn )
make sure you have good clean contact
I bought a fuse strip holder and mounted under dash.
Also fitted relays to lights and spotlight.
Indicator arm can run " flashers" and green end flashs. I will check wiring
diagram to night.
Remember generator only produces 22 Amps.
Add your usage up i.e. two 50watt headlamps ( 100watts by 12volts)
8.3 amps draw . Yellow Sedan Red Sedan Blue Ute Red Ute Eye Rolls Eye Rolls

I've done 3 morries from the ground up, they have had no problems but, arn't ideal, alot of wire & not the neatest.

If i did another one, i would lie out the original harness onto a large board, hammer in nails to hold it into the shape it was in the morrie, front, back, dash etc, then cut the outside tape (cloth) off. Right on the board what everything is, wire & lights horn etc, then add the extras like radio, blinkers.
Remove the old wire, & lay your new wire onto the board as per the old, add extra nails to hold it in place, with it laying out as per the car you can see where everything should go, & get the perfect length ( make everything a few inchs longer to start with) if you want a reverse light just run a wire from the fuse box, loop it roughly were the gearbox would be then run it to the back, right everything on the board ( ply ) as you go, colours, size 15/20amp etc.

Once your happy with it use small cable ties to bundle the wires neatly together temp every 6 inch or so, this makes it easier to tape the whole thing together, dont use electrical tape as it eventualy goes sticky & comes off making a huge mess, go to an auto electriction & buy the right tape. Start tapeing it up, keeping the wires tight, remove each cable tie as you get to it.

I've thought about this for a while, you could make one side of the board for a standard morrie & the other side for a dato install. Give it to the club when finished.
I would prabably run an extra wire to the rear, oone under the dash & one into the engine bay as you always want to add something later you forgot about.
I dont think a wireing section on a complete morrie has been done as it would be huge to explain everything.

I've bought two harness' from Rod Smith of Classic Wiring Looms ( 03 9737 0101.)
One for the low light and one for a Datsun powered car.
Rod really knows both cars well and can help out by adding extra additions at a reasonable cost. He will also do COD at the post office.

the wiring diagramme is ok
I have heaps of wire looms and fuse boxes from wrecking other cars
and most of it is colour coded
I have got a roll of the right loom winding tape from a friend

I like that idea of laying out the wiring on a board its a good one
then all one has to do is link everything up before fitting it to the car
lights etc switches --- dont have any relays

the extra wire to the back is good as I am putting a light in the boot
can understand several spare wires to the engine and interior

anyone know ho to zap a genny to run negative earth ?

If the generator has been sitting around for a long time id reckon it wouldn't need "zaping"
I have done them a few ways, just changed the batt leads over & left it over night, or change batt leads over, take the fan belt off, then press the contact in the regulator box closed for a min the generator will spin like an electric motor, then put fanbelt back on & bobs your uncle.
Don't forget to change the wire over from the coil to the dizzy.

In my (rather limited) experience, the wiring loom itself has not caused any hassles so i'm not sure i'd bother rewiring a minor. Instead, the trouble was caused by things that attach to the wiring loom that have lucas written on them (and the SU fuel pump) Very Happy
