I've bought new barrels for the ignition and door keys for my ute.
How is the ignition switch dismantled?

It attaches to a plate and unscrews from under the dash

The switch seems to be held together by two hollow brass rivets.
Do these need to be removed ?

yea the rivets have to go, if you are patient you can hand ream the rivet with a larger drill bit and a pair of vice grips, just loosen the rivet and slide it out, and then you can peen the rivet back over when reassembling
