i am guessing this is a simple 'either battery or starter' answer but i figured i might consult a couple of people with a little more experience in the matter.
running an A14, with from what i remember, the correct battery for it.
if the car is cold, sometimes the crank speed is quite slugish to start, but after a couple of turns it speeds up to more of what i would expect.
first up, i thaught it could be the battery being half flat (it had been sitting with little movement while i was doing my tail lights) but it is charged up and currently at 12.6V
so i checked the crank voltage to see how buggered the battery is. it sits at 9.6-10V.
this leans me towards the starter being on the way out. but if anyone knows of something than the starter, like some 'upper left hand crank gyroscope dohicky' that makes acceleration better while the car is caught in a tornado spinning at more than 200m/s clockwise in the northern hemisphere... it would be much appreciated if you could pass on the knowledge
thanks

just pulled the starter down, and think i have found the problem.
it all seems clean (for a ~30yo part anyway) nothing being gummed up or anything, untill i looked up at the brushes. one of them is sticky (not sliding in and out freely) and is quite worn. i believe this to be the problem (starter only working on 1 coil instead of 2) the other 3 brushes look to have enough meat on them.
does anyone know where to get the brushes for this starter? pref in northern Sydney/central coast. but i dont mind getting it posted. i do have a pic of it which i will put up prob tomorrow.
now to get years of brush dust out of my nose...

Any auto elect will have them, should only cost $1-$2 if they are a bit wide you can file them down to suit
