Just thought we would post a few pics of our Morry named Murry as we are recent members to the forum. He is a 1959 model with Datsun 1500 motor with twin carbs, 4 speed manual (hopefully in future a 5 speed if I can find one), Sunny diff, datsun front disc conversion, 14" wheels, central locking, electric windows, fluro's underneath (green of course), DVD, air horns, green tinted rear window, flares, front spoiler and interior has flame embroidery. All work was done by the wife and I (I am handy with tools and a paint gun and she is handy with a sewing machine) . Big thanks to Brian for parts and technical info. We have had the car on the road for the last two years and improvements are on going. Last but not least Murry was also used at our wedding in Nov 06.

Flares are a universal firbreglass set from a spoiler shop here in Perth. I had to do a few modifications to them and glass in some holders on the back. They normaly look like the ones that come on the SLR Torana's which have the recess for bolts but had to cut them off as they would have been too wide. If you want I can dig up their info and get a price of what a pair would cost now.

Flare information

Shop name: Spoilers 'N' Flares
Address: 28 Clavering Street Bayswater Western Australia 6053
Ph: 08 9370 3099
Price: $110 pair
Availability: made to order

As I said before they do need a bit of modification depending on how wide you want them to be. I have 14" X 6" rims and using 195 x 14 x 65 tyres so I have cut the flares just to cover them.

I did find when I first recieved them that they were not wide enough and after speaking to the shop I was told they are not fully set for about a month. I then stretched them out and mounted them on a board until I was ready to fit them, this did the trick.

Hope the info has been some help.

Not related but do know him quite well.

Plenty of room inside for the bride and her wedding dress as the cab had been stretched by a few inches before I bought it.

Love the ute, especially the wooden tray. Nice touch.

Where did you get the front lower valance from?

Cheers,
Richard

Got it second hand here in Perth, I am looking for another one for our second ute project but they are hard to get. I do know somebody that has one off a car that has said I could use it to get a mold made but that can be quite expensive and you need to make a few to cover the cost.

I'd be interested in a pair pending on the price. Yellow Convertible

Hi
I am a new member.
I am running a Datsun 1500 engine to an orginal Morris gearbox in a 54 (/56?) ute.
I would like to replace the gearbox. Tried a few datsun boxes but they don't fit (or suit (eg external linkages)
What gearbox did you fit to yours - and how?
Regards

It is a datsun 5 speed box no external linkages, came out in a few of the datsun imports and sunny wagons. Very hard to find there are a couple of places that do a toyota 5 speed conversion kit to fit the datsun A series motors but I don't have any details, think there is some other info on the forum about gearboxes.

Hi Austral Blue Ute

The 5-speed 60 series gearboxes for the datsun A series will cost you $800 to $1200 when you eventually find one (rare).
There are various flavours: overdrive fifth and 1:1 fifth, and dogleg or conventional shift pattern.
If you contact me by PM, I can put you onto someone who might have one.

A good alternative for an A15 would be a 60 series 4 speed. Much cheaper and easier to find. Stronger than the usual Datsun 4 speed boxes in 120Ys, etc.

Cheers
Don
