Can anyone point me to a NEW one of these for a 1970 Traveller? On the net I can only find a couple and they're used. And the modern transistorised ones for Minis appear to be unsuitable (I've already fused one trying to get it to work!).

Thanks for that Jack ... problem is, those Mini (transistorised) ones are fully polarity sensitive, specifically positive earth but my electrics have been modified to negative earth. Hence, the 'modern' ones won't work on my speedo and that's why i need an original (thermal) unit.

Cheers mate.

There was a simple DIY one in one of the Classic car mags recently. I'll see if I can find it.

[edit] Here we go - Practical Classics - March 2010

It's not so much how to make one, but more how to use an electronic component - still useful.

Hi Greg
The one I bought was the same as the original. Think I have an old one here on the back of a speedo. Yellow Sedan Blue Ute

Hi guys I was looking at a wiring diagram which showed the heater in off switch should go through the voltage regulator output

I was just wondering if this was the case

I was just given a heater and wanted t know the best way to wire the on off switch?

Cheers

Tom

i cant see how that would be the case. I dont have a wiring diagram with me ATM but if anything i would say it would piggy back of the stabilizer input. so the cable that supplies power to the stabilizer also supplies power to the heater.

i can have a look in the morning to be sure

Darren

I will have look at the diagram in the morning and let you know. Do you have a late black face speedo and fuel gauge? If you have the gold speedo and fuel gauge, you dont have a voltage stabilizer. Just hook onto the back of the fuel gauge as that is an ignition fed 12volt supply. One wire on the gauge goes to the tank and the other one is your 12 volt supply. The colour wire you need is the Green wire. Just piggy back onto that terminal.

Cheers

Darren
