Gday all. Thought I would post a few pics on the rebuild of my series 2 ute.
Let me know if the links don't work.
Cheers

Reminds me of my morris ute that built by myself and a mate when we where tenagers. Stripped it down to the chassis and fitted a van back onto it which turned out to be a reasonably easy job to do. Had to sell the car as wife at the time did not like it. Wife long gone and so is the van Mad Mad Mad Mad

Cheers Mike

Some advise from one who has done what you are doing
1. Takes lots of before photos.
2. Buy all final colour paint in one lot (approx 4 liters)
3. Buy new panels from Andrew Eggleton Uk ( best fit best price)
4. Keep asking question here.

Good Luck

Gday all. Thanks for the interest and suggestions.
Yes the hoist is fantastic. I've got a 52 ford mainline to do after this one so thought it was worth the investment. Bought it from a mob called Autohoist. They are in Tweed Heads. Cost me $3600 to buy. It is Chinese so it's cheap but appears to work OK mechanically.

With regards to appearance I am actually keeping the patina look and going to coat it in some stuff called renaissance wax. All the underside will be cleaned up and repainted however.

My first full build on anything so learning a heap.

GDay all. Time is marching on. A bit of an update on my build.
Some of you may have seen my post a couple of months ago in the engine section about the tragic crack in the centre main crank journal. So the links below show the 2nd 948 engine now that I managed to find. It is absolutely stock. Believe it to have been swapped out for a repower many years ago. Excitingly the crankshaft isn't cracked so yay. Very Happy

The other photos show the chassis and diff housing in various stages of prep.
I have used a chassis coater kit from a crowd called KBS. Australian company apparently. I intend to use their grey (about the same colour as zinc coat) for the underside of the body to make a contrast with the black chassis and diff housing.

If anyone has access to an extra large fuel tank, would appreciate the contact. Will post in the correct section as well.

On to setting up the diff centre now and suspension parts to bolt on to the chassis.
Let me know if there is an issue with the links.

Enjoy

I think the folding one or modifying what I have is going to be the option 👍

Both my Minors have standard fuel tanks and I have never had a problem or wanted a bigger tank.
My saloon goes to Sydney events regularly which is about 450klm's, The car has been to many National Rallies also including Brisbane ,Albury, Bendgo/Melbourne . I get about at worst 7 liters per 100. gives arange of 350klms
Personal choice but I don't see any need for bigger tank, extra load extra comsumsion.

As I am a tallish fella, I would like to add, that it is nice to pull up for petrol, and stretch the legs and have a break from the small driving seat.

A four hour driving period and then a break, is ok by me

Quite different in the modern car, that a 6 hour drive without a break is, common.

Hey guys. These are good points. As a young teen when I drove this thing around it was only short trips down the paddock. Maybe I'll keep what I have and do some trips first. Its not that big of a job to change it out.

Hey Boyd, great job, kicking goals. How do you find the kbs rust blast product? Do you think it's better then conventional rust remover/converters? I'm using the chassis black but using conventional rust converter

Cheers Pete

Morning Pete. Years ago I used a product called X-troll. That is the only other experience I have had with rust converter so don't really have a comparison. The KBS 3 step process was simple enough amd appears to do what it says. Time will tell I guess.

Got some more done this part couple of weeks. I'll post some photos in the next few days hopefully.
