Thanks Frosty that is on the list, but not on top.
Get the mechanics done first then the inside sorted the way I want it.

Hey Graham

Those rear shocks aren't really going to do that much due to the angle they are on. They really should be mounted so they move in the same plane as the diff.

As the diff moves up it will move back which is the opposite direction you will want it to move when you need the shocks to work.

Maybe consider either mounting the shocks straight up and down or fit a new crossmember up behind the tank to mount them on.

Please dont misunderstand me, im not knocking your work.I am merely stating a fact which will help you in the long run.

The photos look good. I have a morry the same as yours, same colour, 2 door and a 62 model. I am going thru the same bulldust as you.

Keep up the good work

Libbor

The back shocks are a kit from Morris Garages in Melbourne , who have been making and selling them for a long time, so presumably/hopefully it dose something other than just hold the axil in place.

Have you got any pictures of your car?

Very Happy Blue Sedan Graham, because the top bolt was never designed to take that amount of load they shear off, there is nothing wrong with the angle just the way they are mounted, that is why the other type are a better design because they have a bracket that sits behind the tank and is bolted through the floor (much stronger) especially with the power delivered to the wheels, that top bolt was only ever designed to take the load of a "Armstrong Lever Action Shock). Eye Rolls Eye Rolls William Ballard.

Hi Graham, yes the angle is completely wrong.

For the amount of the lift the diff has over a bump the shock will only work half as much. That is because the diff moves straight up and down but the shock is mounted on an angle.

I suppose that is why we dont see any cars with their shocks mounted laying back. Laying in is fine but not back. I am sure that they will work just fine on a "normal horsepower" morry but you will need all the damping you can get to keep that axle on the ground and not skipping.

Yes the bolt is a weak point but its the angle as well.

I am sure we all think we are engineers but this is just common sense.

Ill post some pictures up tonight

Hi Graham

Its a neat looking installation.

There's heaps of room on the passenger side of the engine bay. I presume the air-con compressor will fill up some of that space.

It looks like a drag car with those fatties on the back and skinnies on the front Very Happy

Progress might be much slower than you hoped, but it is turning out well.

Cheers
Don

Yeah the wheels are only on it to move it around. I have ordered new wheels, 15x6, they will have 185's all round so the car will look more balanced.

G'day

I was thinking about that this morning but the short answer is no.
The idea is to fit the radiators (water, oil and ac) then fit a new crossmember.
Water radiator being fitted this week.
The new wheels were due last week so hopefully this week.
The tunnel cover is being modified to clear a couple of bumps then the new pedal box will go in and the brakes can be finished.
Then the electrics can be done.

Cheers

G'day Don

We have an auto pedal box out of a series 2 RX7 that looks like it will fit with a bit of adjustment.
Using a S2 brake booster and master cylinder as well.

cheers

Yeah my plan was always to have a X breed by tring to only have two makes in the car, to create my own M3, Morris Minor Mazda.
The steering column is really mazda with a ford badge on it.

Hey graham, looking good

Just a quick question about the bolt on the end of your steering column that clamps to the spline as mine was missing, was there thread cut into the bolt all the way down the bolt or only at the end, I tried using a standard bolt and it fouled on the spline.

are you keeping that steering wheel, I found a sports wheel that's very close to an original only smaller, I'll find a pic

cheers Paul

G’day Paul

Unfortunately I can not help you with info on the steering, I am in Darwin and the car is in Geelong and I came home before the steering was changed.
When I started the project I did not expect to be in Victoria as long as I was and I expected to be bringing the finished car home with me when I left. Ah well apparently this sort of thing always takes a lot longer than you expect.
I will be changing the wheel at some stage although it is not a priority at the moment but it probably will become one when I have to look at that Ford badge every time I drive it. Maybe the new wheel will be a Christmas present.

How is your car progressing?

Cheers

exellent
the shock angle is fine IMO have a look at some modern vans & 4X4's one shock is on the front of the housing & the other on the rear, but it will shear the top mount off the body
