Thought it was about time I put an update on the forum on getting my ute "up to scratch" to try and make it presentable for the Nationals in Port Macquarie next year, but only as a display vehicle.

I have had a tonneau cover made up and fitted, added the fibreglass valance and front bumper, metal sunvisor now painted and fixed on. Was able to obtain a chrome petrol cap, wheel trims and hubcaps as well.

Probably all just mundane things to most of you out there, but it's alot better looking than when I first brought it home. There are spots on the ute that need an improvement to the paint work, but from a distance it doesn't look too bad. Just something else to put on the agenda to do when finances permit.

I leave all the mechanical things to others as I try to watch and learn, and believe me I have learnt a lot !!

I'll add a photo of the engine bay in the next few days - I forgot it was one of the most important photos that people prefer to look at.

It has a 1098cc engine and ribbed gearbox, with twin SU carburretors and extractors fitted. Drum brakes front & rear.

Making enquiries with a metal fabricator to have a plate made up under the dashboard to house the radio and a couple of Smith's gauges I was given.

Neighbour is quite excited about assisting the mechanical side of things, (loves old cars !!)and fitting replacement parts which I've been able to source from Morris Minor World in North Parramatta.

So hopefully, all will be good for the trip to Port Macquarie !! Very Happy Very Happy

My apologies for my carelessness and negligence for forgetting !! Embarassed

I've read that we should all have one displayed, particularly at the Nationals.

Please let me know how to go about obtaining one, including cost etc, and I'll put one on the ute the minute I get it !! Very Happy

one thing, how come you have your metal sun visor up so high ?
kinda looks like a base ball cap.

Hi, you have done a fantastic job of the ute. Paint looks good.

One thing, Have you thought of deleting the overriders? It tends to give the car a cleaner look. Thats just my opinion.

Looking forward to seeing it at the nationals. Have you registered yet?

Thank you for the positive comments. Only being new at all this with the hobby, I know I'm heading in the right direction. Very Happy

Yes I have registered for the nationals, did that about a week or so ago.

With the overriders, I did toss up the idea of not putting them on, knowing that the utes didn't have them. But I'm a bit of a chrome lover (envy all those old Cadillacs and the like).

With the sunvisor, I suppose when I have a closer look, it does resmble a baseball cap peak. Shocked I had the visor made up by HiWay visors at Lidcombe, who supplied the clips and brackets to fit it. I then took the visor to the local panelbeater at Berowra for it to be sprayed and fitted.

Like me, it was his first time at installing anything on a Morris Minor. We had a look at a visor that was fited to an early model valiant in the area, and found it was attached to the upper part of the "gutters" down the side of the windscreen. And I suppose being wary of any risk of blocking the driver's vision, he attached the visor to the Morrie the same way. Maybe it could be brought down a bit further. Eye Rolls
