My 1954 split screen came with no Bulb in the Ignition Warning Light. Where can I get a Lucas No. 970 Bulb from. Is the Bulb red coloured or does the top of the fitting has a red glass ring in it. Does the bulb just fit in on top of the tapered coil spring & is retained by the Screw cap? Where is the Voltage reduced to 2.5 Volts as the cables come from the Ignition switch & the control box?

All the bulbs should be 12v, I have replaced all mine with LED's using original bases, taking out the middle glass and soldering in a led and resistor

Hi Grant,

Do you still use a Generator? If so, does it work OK with the LED Indicator?

Well I'll be buttered on both sides. I would have bet 10 quid to a nob of goat's poo and hold the stakes in my mouth that they would all be 12 volts, but my Operator's Manual for a GPO vehicle fitted with a side valve engine says 2.5 volts @ .5 watt. My BMC workshop manual also lists this globe. However this only applies to the models with the lamp separate and mounted in to the top of the dash. On this light, there is a resistance wire wound around the outside of the light fitting so beware if you remove the fitting as the wire is quite fragile.

The later models with the Ignition light integral in the speedo use a 12 volt 2.2 watt globe the same as the speedo panel lights. By the way, if you have trouble getting a globe, try a 2.5 volt torch globe.

Bob.

Hi looks like they haven't answered all of your questions yes there should be a red lens that fits in to the fitting, not a red globe, you can get a bit of red plastic and cut one out to fit
