Working on the theory (which may be erroneous) that a more accurate reading is taken from the rear of the engine, I am considering fitting the temperature sending unit to the little plate at the rear of the head on my '60 1000.
This would entail removing the plate, drilling it and welding on a new piece which I could then thread to take the sender unit. Does anyone know what is under the plate? Would there be room to fit a sender unit into it without restricting the flow of water?
Alfie

Somewhere in my shed I have a plate that I made like that. Finally I made another with a tee to also add heater pipe. Then I purchased a 12G295 Cooper head with the thread in the head up front, in the end this gave the best result.
With my current Ute restoration I have gone with the thermostat housing with sensor provision, I bought mine on e-bay.

I did the same as i dont have a heater and this is where the heater tap/vavle would go.

You can buy the adapter plate easily and fit the sender to it.

ebay or the usual suppliers have it
